The Groundbreaking Ceremony for City of Olean Marcus Park Collaboration Project will take place on August 7, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in Marcus Park on West Sullivan Street between 14th and 15th Streets. The public is invited to attend.
The Collaboration Project will include an Intandem funded $600,000 inclusive playground, the first one in Cattaraugus County. Other upgrades include a youth sports field, a dog park, modern and accessible restroom facilities, a new sheltered picnic area, and a walking trail that will connect to the Allegheny River Valley Trail. The project is funded in part by grants from Empire State Development’s Capital Improvement Grants for Pro-Housing Communities ($752,675) and New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation ($500,000). The City’s share is $206,000 of which the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation has committed a grant of $23,803.51.
“Marcus Park is located in a wonderful neighborhood, full of families and children. Flanked by Washington West Elementary School and Intandem facilities, it is the perfect place for a full service park featuring the first inclusive playground in Cattaraugus County,” said William J. Aiello, Mayor of the City of Olean. “I am very appreciative of the funding that the City received from Empire State Development and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, as well as from the Olean Region Community Foundation. I would also like to thank Intandem and the Intandem Foundation for collaborating with the City to provide all children in our community with a safe and inviting playground.”
