The Pittsburgh Pirates came home fired up after dropping the series finale in Chicago Sunday — and made a statement Monday night at PNC Park. The Bucs blew out the Washington Nationals 16-5 in one of their most explosive offensive performances of the season.
Sixteen runs. Sixteen hits. Pittsburgh batted around and then some in a ten-run sixth inning that turned a tight game into a laugher. Brandon Lowe led the way — going three-for-six with a home run and five RBI. Oneil Cruz was everywhere — two hits, three RBI, three runs scored. Bryan Reynolds added a triple and four RBI of his own.
On the mound, Paul Skenes was electric — six innings, six strikeouts, just one hit allowed. The young ace continues to put the league on notice.
Pittsburgh and Washington continue the series tonight at PNC Park, first pitch at 6:40pm EDT with the radio pregame beginning at 6:15pm on WESB Sports – B107.5FM.
