The Pittsburgh Pirates dropped a tough one at home Tuesday night, falling to the Washington Nationals 5-4 in front of the PNC Park faithful.
CJ Abrams was the star for Washington — 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs — as the Nats built an early 3-0 lead and held on late. Mitch Keller took the loss, allowing five runs in four innings of work.
For the Pirates, Brandon Lowe and Joey Bart each cracked solo homers. Marcell Ozuna added two hits and his first RBI of the season. Oneil Cruz’s 12-game hitting streak came to an end.
The Pirates fall to 10-7 on the young season and sit atop the NL Central, but they’ll look to bounce back Wednesday.
Despite the loss, Pittsburgh remains in first place in the division. They’ll send Mason Montgomery to the mound as the opener tomorrow night against Jake Irvin and the Nationals. First pitch at 6:40 with the radio pregame beginning at 6:15pm on WESB Sportsm B107.5FM..
