The Pittsburgh Pirates dropped a heartbreaker to the Washington Nationals Thursday at PNC Park, falling 8-7 in 10 innings.
The Bucs out-hit the Nats 15-10 and had plenty of chances, but four errors and a missed opportunity in the 10th proved costly. Marcell Ozuna went deep with a three-run homer, and Oneil Cruz ripped a 119-mile-per-hour double that drove in a run. But in the bottom of the 10th, with the game on the line and the winning run 90 feet away, Cruz held up at third and never attempted to score.
The Pirates fall to 11-8 on the season and drop the series to Washington.
Despite the tough loss, Pittsburgh remains near the top of the NL Central. They’ll look to bounce back today as the Tampa Bay Rays come to PNC.
The radio pregame begins at 6:15pm EDT on WESB Sports, B107.5FM.
