Buffalo, your Sabres are back — and they didn’t disappoint.
The Sabres shocked the Boston Bruins Sunday night at KeyBank Center, scoring three goals in a four-minute-thirty-four second span late in the third period to complete a stunning four-to-three come-from-behind victory in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference first-round series.
Buffalo was staring down a two-nothing deficit heading into the final twenty minutes, and it got worse when Elias Lindholm made it three-zip early in the third. But the Sabres refused to quit. Tage Thompson cut it to two with a goal at the seven-fifty-eight mark, then tied it at two apiece just minutes later. And then — the moment KeyBank Center erupted — Mattias Samuelson scored the go-ahead goal to make it 3-2, Sabres.
Alex Tuch sealed it with an empty-netter, and David Pastrnak’s late goal made it close, but time ran out on Boston. Tage Thompson finished with two goals and an assist. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 17 saves in net for the win.
Buffalo leads the series one-nothing. Game 2 is Tuesday night at KeyBank Center.
