Pittsburgh Pirates baseball — and the Bucs took two out of three in Milwaukee this weekend, splitting the series with a Sunday stumble.
Friday night was dominant — Paul Skenes carried a perfect game into the seventh inning before settling for seven scoreless frames, striking out seven and allowing just one hit on 93 pitches. The offense backed him with a six-to-nothing final. Saturday, the Bucs needed extras — winning six-to-three in ten innings — with Nick Gonzales going three-for-five with an RBI and Konnor Griffin adding two hits and a run batted in. Sunday, Milwaukee’s Kyle Harrison shut Pittsburgh out five-to-nothing, holding the Bucs to just two hits.
The Pirates sit at sixteen and twelve — third in the NL Central, two games behind Cincinnati.
Now the Bucs come home to PNC Park for a four-game set against the Cardinals beginning tonight at six-forty. Manager Don Kelly will use Mason Montgomery as the opener, with Wilber Dotel handling the bulk role tonight. Kyle Leahy gets the ball Tuesday, Bubba Chandler on Wednesday, and Paul Skenes closes out the series Thursday.
