Pittsburgh Pirates baseball — and the Cardinals roughed up the Bucs again Tuesday night at PNC Park — this time eleven-to-seven.
Pittsburgh’s pitching couldn’t hold up — Hunter Barco allowed five earned runs in four-and-two-thirds innings, and Braxton Ashcraft surrendered six more in relief — the combination sinking the Bucs on a night they actually swung the bats pretty well.
The offensive bright spots for Pittsburgh: Ryan O’Hearn clubbed a home run and drove in three, going two-for-four with two runs scored. Oneil Cruz also went deep — two-for-five with a homer and a run batted in. Konnor Griffin hit his own home run — two-for-four with an RBI — and Nick Gonzales delivered two hits and two RBI. The Bucs racked up thirteen hits on the night but gave up twelve of their own — and the pitching staff couldn’t strand runners when it counted.
Pittsburgh drops to sixteen and thirteen.
The Pirates look to bounce back tonight — Game Three of the series — six-forty at PNC Park. Rookie right-hander Bubba Chandler — one-and-two with a four-point-eight-eight E-R-A — gets the ball against St. Louis’ Andre Pallante.
