Pittsburgh Penguins hockey — and the Pens are still breathing.
Pittsburgh staved off elimination again Monday night at PPG Paints Arena, topping the Philadelphia Flyers three-to-two in Game Five to pull within three games to two in the series.
Elmer Soderblom and Connor Dewar provided the offense, while Sidney Crosby set up two goals with a pair of assists and Arturs Silovs was outstanding in net — stopping 18 of 20 Flyer shots. Defenseman Kris Letang delivered the game-winner in the second period, his second straight clutch goal to help keep Pittsburgh alive. The win also pushed Crosby into a historic milestone — he became the fifth active player in NHL history to record 100 or more career playoff victories.
Crosby said after Game Four the Pens are building momentum — noting it took three games to look like themselves, but they can build on it.
Now Pittsburgh heads back to Philadelphia for Game Six — Wednesday night at seven-thirty Eastern at Xfinity Mobile Arena. Win, and this series goes to a Game Seven. Lose, and the Penguins’ season is over.
