Buffalo Sabres hockey — and a gut-punch at KeyBank Center Tuesday night.
The Sabres had a chance to end it on home ice — but David Pastrnak had other ideas. The Boston star scored with ten forty-six left in overtime to give the Bruins a two-to-one win over Buffalo in Game Five — keeping Boston’s season alive and trimming the Sabres’ series lead to three games to two.
Rasmus Dahlin gave Buffalo its only lead — converting on the power play for his first career playoff goal in the first period. But Elias Lindholm tied it for Boston in the second — and Jeremy Swayman was once again sensational in net, finishing with 26 saves to force overtime. Buffalo’s Alex Lyon was equally sharp — stopping 25 of 27 shots — but Pastrnak’s overtime magic was the difference.
The Bruins have now won eight of their last twelve road playoff games — a sobering number for Sabres fans.
Buffalo still holds a three-games-to-two series edge and remains a heavy favorite to close it out — the Sabres were listed as minus-seventeen-hundred to win the series after Game Four. Even after Tuesday’s loss, oddsmakers still heavily favor Buffalo to advance.
Game Six is Friday night at TD Garden in Boston — puck drop at seven-thirty Eastern on HBO Max, TNT, and truTV. Win it and the Sabres are in the second round. Lose it, and this series comes back to Buffalo for a deciding Game Seven on Sunday.
