The Sabres couldn’t get it done in front of the home crowd.
Buffalo dropped Game Five at KeyBank Center Thursday night, falling to the Canadiens six-to-three — and Montreal did the damage in the middle two periods. The Sabres actually led three-to-two after the first, but the Canadiens outscored them four-to-nothing the rest of the way to take a three-to-two series lead.
Montreal was lethal on the power play — going two-for-two — and shot over twenty-three percent on the night. Juraj Slafkovský was all over the scoresheet with three assists, and Jake Evans scored the game-winner. Buffalo put thirty-six shots on net but converted on just three of them.
Game Six is Saturday night in Montreal — seven o’clock Eastern. Win or go home for the Sabres.
