The Pittsburgh Pirates bounced back in a big way Wednesday night in St. Louis — shutting out the Cardinals 7-0 to even the series at one game apiece.
Carmen Mlodzinski was masterful on the mound. The right-hander worked five scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and striking out one, picking up the win as Pittsburgh’s bullpen held the Cardinals scoreless the rest of the way. St. Louis managed just five hits on the night and went zero for five with runners in scoring position.
Offensively, the Bucs jumped on starter Michael McGreevy early and often — finishing with fifteen hits. Konnor Griffin led the charge, going four for five and scoring three times. Nick Gonzales went two for five with two R-B-I. Bryan Reynolds added a double and two R-B-I. And first baseman Spencer Horwitz provided the big swing of the night — a solo home run that sent a message to the Cardinals.
The Pirates and Cardinals wrap up the series this afternoon in St. Louis with first pitch set for 12:15pm Central.
