The New York Yankees opened their series in Kansas City on Memorial Day with a statement comeback.
Trailing 3-2 heading into the ninth, the Bombers rallied for two runs to steal a 4-3 win over the Royals at Kauffman Stadium. Anthony Volpe delivered the go-ahead R-B-I in that ninth-inning surge, finishing one-for-four with two R-B-I’s on the day.
Will Warren started and went six solid innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits before handing it to the bullpen. Tim Hill earned the win, and David Bednar closed it out for the save. Cody Bellinger added a solo home run, and J-C Escarra went three-for-four to pace the offense. Bobby Witt Junior and Salvador Perez each homered for Kansas City, and Michael Wacha was sharp in a losing effort, going seven innings and striking out five.
Tonight, the Yankees send Cam Schlittler to the mound — six and two with a one-fifty E-R-A — against Kansas City’s Bailey Falter. First pitch at seven-forty Eastern.
