The Cubs came to PNC Park and handed the Pittsburgh Pirates a tough loss Wednesday night.
Chicago scored two in the first and one in the second to grab an early three-nothing lead. The Pirates fought back, plating three in the third and one in the fourth to briefly take the lead — but that’s where things went sideways. The Cubs erupted for six runs in the seventh inning to put it completely out of reach.
Bubba Chandler took the loss for Pittsburgh, giving up four earned runs on eight hits over five innings. The bullpen couldn’t hold it together, with Yohan Ramirez taking the brunt of the damage in that brutal seventh.
On the offensive side, Brandon Lowe hit a home run and drove in three for the Bucs, while Bryan Reynolds went three-for-four. But it wasn’t enough.
Ian Happ did the most damage for Chicago — a home run and five R-B-I’s.
Final score — Cubs 10, Pirates 4.
The good news? Pittsburgh stays home. The two teams meet again Thursday night at PNC Park in Game Four of this series. Paul Skenes takes the hill for the Pirates against Chicago’s Colin Rea.
First pitch at 6:40pm EDT with the radio pregame beginning at 6:15pm on WESB Sports, B107.5 FM..
