The Pittsburgh Pirates have swept the Minnesota Twins out of PNC Park — and Ryan O’Hearn made sure Sunday’s series finale was one to remember.
O’Hearn, returning from the injured list, stepped to the plate for his first at-bat of the afternoon — and didn’t waste any time making an impact with a towering homerun.
That shot set the tone early, and the Pirates never looked back. Pittsburgh rolled to a 9-3 victory on Sunday, capping a 3-game sweep. Braxton Ashcraft earned the win, going six strong innings — striking out eleven Twins batters while allowing just two runs. Nick Gonzales also went deep and drove in two.
It was a big weekend all around for the Buccos. Saturday’s game was a wild one — Pittsburgh edging Minnesota 10-9 in a back-and-forth thriller. Friday’s series opener was a 6-5 Pirates win.
The sweep gives Pittsburgh serious momentum heading into the week. The Bucs hit the road to face the Houston Astros starting Tuesday night.
