The New York Yankees showed some serious grit Monday night in Cleveland — rallying from behind twice and grinding all the way to ten innings before putting away the Guardians 7-5.
Paul Goldschmidt was the early hero — launching a two-run homer in the first inning to stake New York to an early lead. But Cleveland clawed back — taking a three-to-two lead in the third, then going ahead again in the sixth on a two-run shot from Angel Martinez. The Yankees kept fighting — tying it in the eighth to force extras. Goldschmidt added another RBI in the game on a fielder’s choice, finishing the night with three RBIs total.
Then in the tenth, Cody Bellinger came through with the game-winning hit — driving in the decisive runs to give New York the seven-to-five victory. Bellinger finished with two hits and two RBIs — delivering the biggest blow of the night. David Bednar was brilliant in relief — striking out three in one-and-two-thirds scoreless innings to slam the door and earn the win.
Trent Grisham and Ben Rice each had two-hit nights, with Rice delivering the clutch tying RBI single in the eighth to force extras.
