The New York Yankees are winning ugly — and loving every minute of it.
New York edged the Cleveland Guardians 3-2 Tuesday night in Cleveland for their second straight win in the series — and the biggest moment of the night belonged to a kid making his mark in the big leagues.
Spencer Jones crushed his first career major league home run — a two-run shot that gave New York a 2-0 lead in the second inning and sent the young outfielder into the record books. Jones finished the night two-for-four with two RBIs — and the smile on his face afterward said everything.
Jazz Chisholm Junior also went deep — his solo shot in the eighth proved to be the game-winning run — finishing two-for-five with an RBI. Paul Goldschmidt was two-for-six. Ryan McMahon also had a two-hit night.
Gerrit Cole started and gave the Yankees four innings — striking out four but allowing two runs. The bullpen took it from there — Fernando Cruz was especially outstanding, punching out four batters in one-and-two-thirds scoreless innings. Camilo Doval picked up the win and Fernando Cruz earned the save.
