You will never forget where you were when you watched this one.
The New York Knicks trailed the San Antonio Spurs by 29 points Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden — and came all the way back to win 107-106 in the most stunning comeback in NBA Finals history.
San Antonio led 76-47 at halftime. The Garden was silent. The Spurs looked unstoppable. And then Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby took over and delivered something that will be talked about for generations.
Brunson was absolutely transcendent — thirty-six points, seven assists, three steals — attacking the basket relentlessly and converting trip after trip to the free throw line. Anunoby was equally breathtaking — thirty-three points on seven-of-nine from three-point range, shooting sixty-seven percent from the floor. Karl-Anthony Towns added thirteen points and ten rebounds.
New York outscored San Antonio fifty-eight to thirty in the second half — and thirty-two to sixteen in the fourth quarter alone to pull off the impossible.
For the Spurs, Victor Wembanyama had twenty-four points and thirteen rebounds — but couldn’t hold off the Knicks’ furious rally. Dylan Harper came off the bench for twenty-one.
New York leads the series three games to one. Game 5 is Saturday night in San Antonio — tip-off at 8:30pm EDT on ABC.
