A tough weekend at PNC Park for the Bucs.
Pittsburgh dropped two of three to the Miami Marlins, falling 8-3 Friday night before bouncing back Saturday 3-2 behind a solid outing from Bubba Chandler — six innings, six strikeouts, backed by a Gregory Soto save.
But Sunday belonged to Miami. Paul Skenes dealt — ten strikeouts in six innings — and took the loss anyway, as the bullpen couldn’t hold it in the eighth. Final: 4-2, Marlins. Bryan Reynolds provided the lone highlight, going two-for-five with a solo home run in a losing effort.
The series split puts Pittsburgh on the wrong end of a two-and-one weekend against one of the weaker clubs in the National League — not what the doctor ordered.
The Pirates now hit the road, heading west to face the Athletics. First pitch Monday night in Sacramento — that’s eight-forty our time. Pittsburgh will look to get right against Oakland before a three-game set in Colorado next weekend.
