The Pirates got roughed up badly Monday night in Sacramento.
Pittsburgh dropped the series opener to the Athletics 11-2 at Sutter Health Park — and it wasn’t close. Jared Jones lasted just four innings, giving up eight hits and five earned runs, including two home runs, on seventy-five pitches before the bullpen inherited the mess. Carmen Mlodzinski came on in relief and made things worse — surrendering six more runs in three innings as Oakland broke the game open with a five-spot in the seventh.
The A’s pounded out fifteen hits on the night. First baseman Nick Kurtz did the most damage — going three for five with two home runs and five RBI. Jeff McNeil added a homer and four RBI of his own. J.T. Ginn got the win, throwing six scoreless innings of relief.
For Pittsburgh, catcher Endy Rodriguez was the lone bright spot — three hits, a solo home run, and the only RBI that mattered.
Tonight, the Bucs try to bounce back. Mitch Keller takes the hill for Pittsburgh against Oakland’s Jack Perkins. First pitch in Sacramento at 9:40pm EDT with the radio pregame starting at 9:15pm on WESB Sports, B107.5FM.
