Happy Fourth of July — but there was nothing to celebrate at Yankee Stadium this afternoon.
Minnesota put on a home run fireworks show of their own, blasting the Yankees 11-4 in a Fourth of July afternoon beatdown. The Twins hit six home runs on the day — Josh Bell led the way with two blasts and three RBI, while Kody Clemens, Luke Keaschall, Trevor Larnach, and Alex Jackson each went deep as well.
Starter Brendan Beck was gone before the fifth inning — surrendering three home runs and five earned runs in just three-and-two-thirds innings. Camilo Doval and Tim Hill were roughed up in relief, with the Twins pouring on four more runs in the eighth to put it out of reach.
New York managed just seven hits on the afternoon and committed two errors. Jasson Domínguez and Max Schuemann each homered for the Bombers, but it was far too little far too late.
The Yankees are now losers of eight of their last ten. They close out this three-game set against Minnesota tomorrow afternoon at the Stadium, first pitch 12:35pm EDT.
