The Yankees offense finally exploded in Tampa Bay this afternoon, and Ben Rice was the catalyst.
New York routed the Rays 12-4 in the series finale, pounding out fourteen hits and going seven for fourteen with runners in scoring position. Rice carried the offense — two for five, two home runs, five RBI — including a three-run blast in a six-run third inning that blew the game wide open and sent Drew Rasmussen to the showers after just two-and-a-third innings.
Ryan McMahon chipped in two doubles and two RBI, Trent Grisham added two hits and two runs scored, and Austin Wells went deep as well. Fourteen hits spread across eight different players — this was a complete offensive performance.
Ryan Yarbrough picked up the win out of the bullpen, and Angel Chivilli was lights out with three strikeouts over two scoreless innings.
New York heads to Washington Friday night — first pitch at 6:45pm EDT.
