Tonight in Philadelphia — it’s the fortieth T-Mobile Home Run Derby, and this year’s field is absolutely stacked.
Eight of baseball’s biggest bashers take the stage at Citizens Bank Park at 8pm Eastern — streaming exclusively on Netflix for the first time ever, ending E-S-P-N’s thirty-two-year run with the event.
The headliners are the hometown Phillies duo of Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber — the first set of teammates in the Derby since twenty-eighteen. Harper won the whole thing right here in two-thousand-eighteen, and Schwarber leads the majors with thirty-two home runs. The Philadelphia crowd is going to be electric.
Joining them — Tampa Bay’s Junior Caminero, looking to avenge last year’s runner-up finish. Ben Rice of the Yankees, Kansas City’s power-hitting rookie Jac Caglianone, Boston’s Willson Contreras, Cardinals outfielder Jordan Walker, and Chicago White Sox phenom Munetaka Murakami — who becomes just the second Japanese-born player ever in Derby history.
The format is brand new this year — no clock, no outs. Each slugger gets twenty swings in Round One, fifteen in the semis, and fifteen in the finals.
The winner takes home one million dollars out of a two-point-five million dollar prize pool.
Coverage on Netflix begins at seven Eastern — first swing at 8pm EDT.
