The Pirates delivered a big one at PNC Park. Pittsburgh beat Arizona 3-to-2 in 10 innings Monday night, pulling even with the Diamondbacks for the National League’s third Wild Card spot. Mitch Keller battled through five-and-a-third, and Bryan Reynolds tied it late with a clutch eighth-inning double. Mason Montgomery worked around a Pirates error to escape a bases-loaded jam in the top of the 10th and pick up the win.
Then Brandon Lowes singled in the bottom of the 10th to drive in the winning run.
Lowe finished with three hits, his second straight multi-hit night, driving in the winning run off the glove of Arizona’s first baseman. The one concern: rookie Esmerlyn Valdez left the game after getting hit on the hand — worth watching as the series continues Tuesday.
