Gerrit Cole turned back the clock Tuesday night in Chicago. Cole tossed six shutout innings of four-hit ball, striking out seven without issuing a walk, as the Yankees beat the White Sox 3-to-2 for their fifth win in six games. Anthony Volpe and Max Schuemann drove in the runs, and closer David Bednar picked up his 22nd save despite allowing a two-run homer in the ninth. New York improves to 61 and 46, now just a game and a half back of first-place Tampa Bay in the A-L East.
The series continues Wednesday night at seven-forty, with Cam Schlittler facing Davis Martin, before Ryan Weathers takes the ball Thursday afternoon opposite Sean Burke to close out the four-game set.
