The Pirates dropped the series opener in Cincinnati Thursday, falling 3-to-2 to the Reds at Great American Ball Park. Pittsburgh used a bullpen day, with Yohan Ramírez starting things off, but Cincinnati’s offense got the better of it late — Sal Stewart and Matt McLain each drove in a run to put the Reds ahead for good. Nick Gonzales continues to lead the Pirates offensively, hitting around .315 on the season.
Pittsburgh did battle back to tie it up first with Brandon Lowe’s 23rf home run of the season.
The Pirates fall to 55 and 54, still sitting third in the N-L Central. They’ll try to bounce back Friday night at6:10pm EDT, with ace Paul Skenes on the mound opposite Cincinnati’s Hunter Greene.
