The Salamanca City Central School District’s board has put plans to introduce a humanoid, AI-powered robot in classrooms on hold after education officials, teachers and residents raised concerns over student privacy.
The stationary robot, named “Sally,” was planned to support high school students studying robotics and technology.
Detractors also had concerns that the robot’s maker, Realbotix, also has ties to a company involved in producing highly realistic sex dolls.
The pilot program remains suspended while the Salamanca School district works with New York state education officials on stronger student data privacy agreements and taking in community feedback.
