Pennsylvania snapped a three-year losing streak in dramatic fashion, holding off New York 28-to-20 in the 53rd Big 30 All-Star Charities Classic. Landon Cook of St. Marys scored three touchdowns, including a special-teams score just five seconds into the game off a botched New York onside kick. Kane’s Frankie Smith was the workhorse, piling up yardage on the ground and sealing the win with a fourth-quarter interception.
New York clawed back with big plays through the air from Payton Bradley and Joe Mest, tying the game 20-20 at halftime, but Pennsylvania’s defense tightened in the second half, forcing turnovers and a costly missed field goal that kept New York at arm’s length in the fourth quarter.
Head coach Ryan Yingling, who’s both played and coached in this rivalry, said it best afterward: his roster faced doubt all week, but had exactly what it needed to get the job done. The all-time series is now tied at 25 wins apiece, with bragging rights staying in Pennsylvania for the next year.
