The Pirates dropped the series opener in Miami Tuesday night, shut out 2-0 by the Marlins at loanDepot Park. Eury Pérez was outstanding, allowing just three hits over seven innings, and Esteury Ruiz’s home run was all the offense Miami needed. Paul Skenes took the loss and continues to struggle mightily — his ERA has ballooned to 6.14 since July 1st, and Pittsburgh is now just 3-and-12 in his last 15 starts, a stunning stretch for a pitcher of his caliber.
The Pirates, at 58 and 62, look to bounce back Wednesday night at six-forty Eastern, with Miami turning to right-hander Janson Junk. Pittsburgh’s starter for the game had not been announced as of this morning.
