The Pirates snapped a three-game skid in the most emphatic way possible Thursday, blasting the Marlins 13-to-1 in Miami. And the story was Braxton Ashcraft — he threw a complete-game three-hitter, striking out 10 and walking just one on only 85 pitches. Ashcraft faced the minimum through eight innings, aided by three double plays, before Owen Caissie’s leadoff homer in the ninth spoiled the shutout bid. It’s the first nine-inning complete game by a Pirate since Mitch Keller in 2024.
The offense backed him up in a big way — Rafael Flores Junior launched two three-run homers, and Jared Triolo, Jake Mangum, and Jacob Gonzalez all factored in too. Nick Gonzales added two more hits, extending his major-league-leading 48th multi-hit game of the season.
