A new era kicks off in Happy Valley. Number 18 Penn State opens its season Saturday at 3:30pm EDT against Marshall, at Beaver Stadium — the 11th annual Stripe Out game. It’s the debut for new head coach Matt Campbell, who arrives after a decade at Iowa State, bringing his old quarterback with him — transfer Rocco Becht, who racked up 26 wins as a starter at Iowa State and enters as one of the most experienced signal-callers in the country.
Watch for running back Carson Hansen, expected to lead the backfield after three productive seasons under Campbell at Iowa State, along with receivers Chase Sowell and Koby Howard, both tabbed by the coaching staff as breakout candidates in a completely reshaped Nittany Lion offense. With 62 new players on the roster, this opener is really the first real look at what Campbell’s Penn State identity looks like.
