The Vegas Golden Knights pounded the Florida Panthers 9-3 last night in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final, capturing the first championship in the franchise’s short 6-year history.
Captain Mark Stone authored a hat trick and center Jack Eichel had 3 assists in the win. Goaltender Adin Hill made 31 saves.
Fittingly enough, when the Golden Knights entered the NHL in 2017 as an expansion team, their owner Bill Foley said his plan was to win the Stanley Cup in 6 years. They made it to the title series in their inaugural season but lost to the Washington Capitals, only to fulfil Foley’s vision last night.
Forward Jonathan Marchessault, one of 6 players still on the roster from that inaugural season, was named the Conn Smythe Trophy winner as postseason most valuable player.
