The Pittsburgh Pirates today signed the following players from the 2025 First-Year Player Draft. The announcement was made by Justin Horowitz, Pirates Director of Amateur Scouting:
McLane Moody RHP 6-7/210 Northside (AR) High School Florida Complex League was rated by Perfect Game as the No. 4 right-handed pitcher in the state of Arkansas and the No. 64 right-handed pitcher nationally during his senior season in 2025 at Northside High School (was recognized by the outlet as a preseason underclass All American in both 2023 and 2024)…Went 6-3 with a 2.94 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 47.2 innings in 2025 (also had two home runs and 22 RBI at the plate for the Grizzlies)…Was signed by Pirates scout Matt Bimeal.
Carter Gwost OF 6-3/215 Little Falls (MN) High School Florida Complex League was rated by Perfect Game as the No. 63 player in the state of Minnesota during his senior season in 2025 at Little Falls Community High School…Was named to the Minnesota Star Tribune All-Minnesota high school team in 2025 after batting .444 with nine home runs at the plate, while also going 4-0 with a 0.00 ERA on the mound…Paced Little Falls with a .433 average in 2024, recording 29 hits, nine doubles, one triple and three home runs, 15 RBI, 22 walks, 16 stolen bases and 26 runs scored (he only struck out four times)…Was signed by Pirates scout Anthony Wycklendt.
The Pirates have now signed 18 players from the 2025 draft.
