Karen Enos, a longtime educator and former superintendent of the Titusville Area School District, has been appointed interim executive director of Titusville’s new Education and Training Hub.
“I am so pleased that Karen has accepted the invitation to serve in this role and have no doubt that she will be a tremendous asset as we move forward with launching the hub at Titusville,” said Dr. Catherine Koverola, president of the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville. “As an educator for more than 30 years, Karen has dedicated her career to ensuring that students reach their fullest potential.”
Koverola will introduce Enos at a community celebration on the Titusville campus at 1 p.m. Oct. 4, at which time Koverola and Pitt Provost Ann Cudd will give an update on the new Education and Training Hub.
Enos will work closely with the three partners that have joined with the University of Pittsburgh to further develop the hub. Those partners, the University of Pittsburgh’s Manufacturing Assistance Center, the Northern Pennsylvania Regional College, and Manchester Bidwell Corp., will provide education and job training programs to meet the educational needs of the six-county region beginning August 2020.
Enos will serve in the role until May 31, 2020. A search for her successor will commence in the spring.
Enos served as Titusville’s school superintendent, retiring on June 30 after 13 years. The daughter of educators, Enos spent more than 30 years in education, beginning her career in 1988 when she started as an art teacher at Rocky Grove High School in Franklin. In addition to teaching art, she was a member of the student assistance team, a peer mentor and served as a class advisor and coach.
Nine years later, she was hired as an assistant principal of Titusville Middle School and in 1998 was named principal. She oversaw the construction and opening of the new middle school in 1999, which Enos said was one of her proudest professional achievements.
In 2006, after serving as the school district’s assistant superintendent, Enos was named superintendent. During her tenure as superintendent, she oversaw the implementation of the customized learning system at Hydetown Elementary School, which Enos said has become a “model of innovation” in both the oil region and all of Pennsylvania.
Duringher long career, she has been actively involved in education organizations. Enos served as president of the Pennsylvania Rural and Small Schools Association, was a longstanding member of the FORUM for Western Pennsylvania School Superintendents, and was active on the professional development committee of the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators.
Enos is active in her community. She serves on the board of the United Way of the Titusville Region, is president of the Titusville Regional Literary Council, and is a member of the Titusville Rotary Club and is its foundation chairperson.
She earned a Bachelor of Science in art teacher education from Edinboro University in 1986 and a master’s degree in school administration from Westminster College in 1998.
