Eddie Shack, one of the most colorful characters in NHL history who spent parts of his career with the Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins in the early 1970s, has died following a bout with cancer. Shack was 83. He had a 17-year career in the NHL that included 1,047 regular-season games. Shack, a member of four Stanley Cup championship teams with the Maple Leafs in the 1960s, was one of the most popular players in the history of the NHL and nicknamed “The Entertainer,” He would lead cheers from the home bench at Maple Leaf Gardens.
