The Cameron County School District board of directors has voted to ban school activities on Sundays.
The board voted 5-3 with one abstention to ban the activities at the request of the local Ministerium association.
Concerns were raised about already scheduled events like the high school band’s trip to Disney World this spring, as well as how the policy would cause scheduling conflicts and affect banquets, sporting events, and extended field trips. Other board members raised concerns about separation of Church and State.
The board did not resolve the concerns, leaving the policy in effect as written.
