A man convicted for a murder in DuBois in 1989 has waived his remaining appeals and will spend the rest of his life in prison.
In exchange for dropping his appeals, the State agrees not to pursue the death penalty against 48 year old Daniel Crispell.
Crispell was convicted in 1990 of the kidnapping and murder of Ella Brown of St. Marys.
Along with an accomplice, Christopher Weatherwill, Crispell abducted Brown from the parking lot of the DuBois Mall, took her to a remote area, stabbed her to death, and took her car to flee. The two were arrested in Arizona after Crispell tried to sell the victim’s purse.
The State Supreme Court ordered a new sentencing hearing in the case last September because a psychological evaluation hadn’t been done. The hearing was to have begun yesterday.
