This Saturday, July 20th, The YWCA Bradford will be holding its signature events, Swig & Swine and the Chasin’ Bacon Challenge.
The Chasin’ Bacon Challenge is a 2-mile obstacle course created in order to offer a fun and healthy event for people to do as a family or with friends. You don’t need to be an expert to partake in the event, either. As with most obstacle courses, we will have those wishing to compete go first, then the others will follow at their own pace. Plus, every obstacle can be modified for each participant’s strength or skill level. In addition to obstacles like hurdles, a tire drag and Army crawl, we have added some fun items from our youth, like a slip-and-slide at the finish line.
This truly is set up as a challenge, not a race, and we will not have official timers. However, at registration, people will have the opportunity to choose if they would like to compete, and then we will determine the beginning heats based on those individuals. We have Chasin’ Bacon Challenge medals for the men’s and women’s 1st (gold), 2nd (silver) and 3rd (bronze) place finishers.
We are also offering family packages for those interested and they can learn more by calling our office at 814-368-4235. People can register online now, or when they arrive at Callahan Park on Saturday. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and the challenge will begin at 9:00 a.m. However, the deadline to guarantee a t-shirt has passed, so we will only have a limited number of some sizes available.
Swig & Swine will be kicked off with live music by members of Marshmellow Overcoat at 4:00 p.m. and then the band, Marshall Law, will take over the stage to finish out the night.
We will have a variety of local restaurants and food vendors participating in this year’s event. Not only will they all be offering some of their patron favorites, they are all competing for this year’s “People’s Choice Award”. There is a beautiful trophy at stake for whichever bacon-themed food item the Swig & Swine guests choose as the winner. Guests will be able to sample each item and then vote on their favorite.
Here’s the list of the food vendors and known items for the People’s Choice Award:
Brick Oven Pizza & Catering – Chicken, Broccoli, and BACON Alfredo Pizza
CJ Bar-B-Que & Catering – Bacon Mac & Cheese
Pizza Napoli & Restaurant – Memphis Pizza
White’s Culinary Artistry – Boozy Brunch Cupcakes
DeLong Enterprises with his Maple Bacon Pecans
In addition to the bacon-inspired food samples, each guest will receive tickets for tastings of a variety of beverages offered by one of our event sponsors, Allegheny Beverage Company. This year, we will be featuring Brewdog Brewing, Corona, Harpoon Brewery, Crook & Marker Seltzer Company and a local favorite, Four Mile Brewing, based in Olean, NY.
The mechanical pig and bacon eating contest are returning as well!
We still have tickets available online at www.ywcabradford.org or at our office, located at 24 West Corydon Street, Bradford. There will also be tickets remaining at the gate entrance for any of those spontaneous planners.
All of the proceeds will benefit the programs and services offered by the YWCA Bradford.
Swig & Swine is being held at the Masonic Center, located at 625 South Avenue, Bradford, immediately off from the Owens Way Exit of Route 219.
