Preservationists who want to keep as much of the Chautauqua Amphitheater as possible say they will keep fighting until the wrecking ball hits.
The Committee to Preserve the Historic Chautauqua Amphitheater says the group is exploring all options, including public pressure and a court case, following Saturday’s decision by the board of trustees to seek bids on replacing the structure.
The vote to put the project out to bid will give the board an idea how much the project will actually cost. They have about $30 million set aside for it.
The board still must vote on accepting bids and moving forward with construction; that vote is expected November 7.
If the project goes forward, demolition and construction would be done after next year’s summer season.
