The man who took police on a chase from Port Allegany to the WESB parking lot and then ran into the woods, has waived his preliminary hearing.
23-year-old Richard Buterbaugh III of Bradford is charged with fleeing from a police officer, receiving stolen property and two dozen traffic offenses in connection to the incident that happened on the night of September 7.
Court records say a state trooper saw Buterbaugh in the Sheetz parking lot in Port Allegany at just after 7 p.m. The trooper tried to stop him on Route 6, but he sped up and pulled away from the trooper, who was going 110 mph. Buterbuaght went through Smethport, then turned onto Route 46 toward Bradford. The trooper notified city as well as Bradford and Foster township police. A city police officer spotted the motorcycle and recognized Buterbaugh. But by the time they caught up with the bike in the WESB parking lot, he had run into the woods toward the radio station’s antenna.
Buterbaugh free on $20,000 unsecured bail.
