Ridgway came from behind to pick up their second consecutive District 9 Class A championship Friday night in Dubois, topping Curwensville 9-7.
The Elkers were trailing early in the fourth quarter when a 32 yard field goal by Aaron Hinton put them up on top. Then a late interception by Neil MacDonald prevented a comeback from Curwensville and sealed the victory for the Elkers.
After the game, the team celebrated their victory with senior Joey Elinski, who had suffered a career ending injury earlier in the season and inspired the team’s “JoeyStrong” catchphrase.
Ridgway now heads to the State Tournament.
