Pirates’ pitcher Ryan Vogelsong has been placed on the 15-day disabled list due to fractures in his face that happened when he was hit by a pitch while batting in the bottom of the second inning on Monday.
The Pirates organization said simply that Vogelsong has “facial fractures” and didn’t provide any further details about the injuries.
The pitch was a 92-mph fastball thrown by Colorado Rockies pitcher Jordan Lyles.
A.J. Schugel has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to take Vogelsong’s place on the active roster.
