Chevron will pay a fine of nearly $1 million for violations related to an explosion at a well site in Greene County that killed a Warren native in February of last year.
DEP says Chevron failed to build and operate the well site to ensure that health, safety and the environment were protected, as required by the state’s Oil and Gas Act.
27-year-old Ian McKee died in the explosion that happened after a nut and pin assembly was ejected on a well, allowing gas to escape into the air.
Last month, Chevron agreed to pay McKee’s family $5 million.
