PA CleanWays of McKean County removed another two thousand tires from McKean County, filling two tractor-trailers on Saturday, July 23, 2016. Smethport Borough hosted the event in Smethport, PA. Thirteen volunteers spent four hours loading the tires. Penn State Extension coordinated the event by taking registrations and the McKean County Adult Probation Office provided several volunteers. Justin Lund, McKean County Recycling Coordinator with the Conservation District, also helped coordinate the project. Several additional McKean County municipalities participated including; Annin, Keating, Lafayette, Lewis Run, Otto, and Wetmore. PA CleanWays made the event possible by securing a grant from the PA Department of Environmental Protection Household Hazardous Waste Program. The collected tires will be 100% recycled by Mahantango, Inc. in Dauphin County, PA.
