A cooking mishap damaged a Kane apartment Tuesday night.
A state police fire marshal and the Kane Fire Department investigated the fire in an apartment house at 16 Field Street in the borough that was reported at just after 11 p.m.
They say the fire in Apartment 7 started on the cooktop of an electric stove when the occupant, Donny Smith, was trying to make French fries and chicken strips.
The fire was contained to the kitchen of Smith’s apartment, and he was the only person displaced. No one was hurt.
Damage is estimated at $20,000. The building is owned by Michael Votano of Johnsonburg.
