Timothy Rigas has been released from prison and is home in Coudersport.
WGRZ-TV spoke with 94-year-old John Rigas on Monday and he confirmed that his son is home. Earlier on Monday a newspaper reported that 63-year-old Timothy would be released from the federal prison in New Canaan, PA, within a few days.
John says Timothy’s early release is being made possible by a provision of a new criminal justice reform law that allows the early release of inmates over the age of 60 who have been convicted of non-violent crimes. His original release date was June of 2022.
The Rigas’s were convicted in 2004on fraud charges after looting the company and hiding more than $2 billion in debt, which threw Adelphia into bankruptcy.
John was granted early release two years ago. His original release date was next September.
