Monday means it’s time for “Yeah Science,” covering the most important nerdy news for your brain you may have missed. Here’s a quick rundown of last week in science . . .
1. Google’s Google Lens app is adding a new feature that will let you point your camera at complicated math problems, and it’ll solve them for you. It’s basically for confused parents trying to help kids with homework.
2. Geologists who study plate tectonics say Africa will eventually split down the middle into two continents, and form a new ocean. It won’t happen for millions of years though. The two halves are moving away from each other by about a quarter-inch every year.
3. The term “crocodile tears” means someone’s just pretending to be sad or sorry. But a new study found that ACTUAL crocodile tears are almost identical to human tears. They’re made up of the same chemicals with slightly different mixtures. The basic ingredients are water, mucus, and oil.
4. Researchers at Washington University in St. Louis have basically turned regular old bricks into batteries. They did it by filling them with nanofibers, so they could store electricity. They’re hoping that someday, we could literally store energy in the walls of our homes.
