The San Diego Padres topped the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-2 last night in San Diego on WESB Sports.
Pittsburgh Starter JT Brubaker allowed two runs and six hits in five innings, struck out seven and walked one.
After the Padres had scored 1 run in both the 3rd and 5th inning, The Pirates got to work in the 6th starting with Bryan Reynolds lead-off homerun. Then Erik Gonzalez and Colin Moran hit back to back singles, and Ka’ai Tom hit a sacrifice fly to center to bring Gonzalez home and tie up the contest.
Gonzalez made his third error of the night while trying to backhand a grounder to short against the defensive shift to start the sixth. A Padres line-drive double to put runners on second and third for reliever Duane Underwood Jr. Jake Cronenworth, however, hit a go-ahead two-run single to lift the Padres to the win.
The Pirates are now 13-17 on the season and will have an off day today before traveling to Chicago to start a 3-game series tomorrow afternoon.
