Young teens in both Pennsylvania and New York are now eligible to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
CDC approval for 12-16 year olds came earlier in the week. Yesterday afternoon New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said that the state’s vaccine advisory task force and state health commissioner had reviewed safety data and signed off on vaccinating young teens.
Pennsylvania also approved the vaccine for 12-16 year olds, allowing them to schedule appointments starting today.
Parental consent will be required for 12-16 year olds to be vaccinated, although a bill in the State Senate may lift that requirement.
