The Pittsburgh Pirates edged the Chicago Cubs 3-2 in Chicago last night on WESB Sports.
Jack Suwinski launched a 410-foot go-ahead homerun in the fifth, and Michael Chavis finished with 3 of Pittsburgh’s 9 hits as the Pirates salvaged the 3-game series at Wrigley after being shut-out twice. The win keeps the Pirates a half game ahead of Chicago for third place in the NL Central.
Chavis finished 3-for-4 with an RBI single in the third, breaking a 20-inning scoreless streak for Pittsburgh. Bryan Reynolds was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
Wil Crowe started the game and gave up 1 homerun while striking out 3 in 2 innings. Mitch Keller pitched the next two and allowed another run on 3 hits with 4 strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings, and Duane Underwood Jr. and David Bednar combined on the last 4 1/3 and held to Cubs scoreless with 1 hit.
The Pirates are now 16-21 on the season and will have an off day today before hosting a 3-game set against the St. Louis Cardinals starting tomorrow night on WESB Sports.
