A Bradford Cardiologist has left Bradford Regional Medical Center and is making accusations about interference and a lack of support.
In his resignation letter, Dr. Steven Herrmann said that he resigned because he believed that neither BRMC and Great Lakes Cardiovascular “supported the practice in the manner which I believed necessary for best cardiac care for the people in Bradford.”
In a letter to the business community drafted at the request of the Save Bradford Hospital organization, Herrmann claimed that ambulances with his patients, who had specifically asked to be taken to BRMC to consult with him, were diverted to Olean General, and that numerous requests for consultation with him by inpatient and emergency room patients were routinely ignored.
Herrmann said that as a result his practice had to stand by “watching hospitalists manage my or other cardiac patients without consultation, oftentimes supplying grossly inadequate care.” He also said that UAHS had “stripped” BRMC “to the bone.”
In a statement, Dr. Jill Owens, interim President of Upper Allegany Health Systems, said “We wish Dr. Herrmann nothing but the best in his future endeavors and we thank him for his service.”
Bravo Dr. Herrmann! And others of position who speak out against a system obviously directed by greed and the almighty dollar. At the end of the day it becomes very clear that rural health care is not only failing, but that hospital CEOs and management care very little for the actual well – being of the patients.
I agree Dr Herrmann! Of course such an abrupt statement would come from the interim President who has slept her way to her current position. Nothing but a heartless and spinless creature, who has zero support or empathy towards the patients in this region. Almighty dollar and title is all that has been her motivation.
I have taken my mother to BRMC and was having issues with her heart besides other things and wanted Dr.Herrmann several times requested for him several times I was ignored. Now my mom has passed, doesn’t mean I am sure he could of helped her she had other issues but being dismissed for my request was unprofessional.
Your mom was a wonderful woman and an honor to take care of. We think of her often, so sorry she passed away.
Its unreal but true. Coming from someone whose dealt with the hospital and its services recently, I can honestly say its a joke anymore. My wife has seriously been mistreated 3 times….2 leading to severe complications and 1 almost leading to death. I don’t understand what is going on. Its so unfair to so many patients. We have to drive 3 hours to upmc passavant emergency room every time shes sick now just so we can be sure and safe.
Thank you Dr. Herrmann for providing superior cardiovascular care to the Bradford area, especially to my father.
Also, I truly believe that the plan to slowly degrade Bradford Hospital into a critical access hospital with very limited services was in the plan years ago. It was a plan put into place, but very well hidden.
The mini physicians that put their heart and soul into Bradford Hospital for many, many years are probably turning over in their graves. These include, Dr. Silverstein, Dr. Meddin, Dr. Watkins, Dr. Konwinski, Dr. Henry and others.
You people should feel lucky that you even still have the remnants of a hospital facility in Bradford, and that Olean is less than 40 minutes away. A lot of communities have it far worse. Especially considering the sorry state of Bradford. The entitlement of some people blows my mind! Get real people!
Lmao…. entitled???entitled to what? Health services that help you and treat you properly? Ok sparky……
I admire your dedication to your patients. I hope more doctors will follow suit.
Happy to see someone speaking out.
Would love to see Bradford Hospital services restored.
For the commenter that thinks OGH (Oh God Help me) nearby is a blessing you couldn’t be more wrong.
